Miss Ginger Waxes Nostalgic- (and her back!)

Miss Ginger's day job led her to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  The place of her rebirth.  Her realm of discovery. The City where she "came out".  It's been an interesting experience,  as you can imagine!

In the 20something years since she (actually!) graduated LSU and moved away,  the city has changed not so much. Some building here,  some deterioration there, but for the most part it looks the same.  There has been some attempt at "rebirth" downtown,  which led Miss G to meet some dear friends at Tsunami,  as FABULOUS Sushi bar atop the Shaw Center,  which is the newly built LSU Museum of Modern Art.  After a delicious uncooked meal with lots of wasabi (and 2 martinis!) Miss  decided to stop by another spot on her old stomping ground, George's Place.  She was a little unnerved by the fact that one now has to ring a bell to be buzzed in (that's new); but what was more unnerving was this not particularly attractive guy name Louis who insisted on rubbing the areas  adjacent to Miss G's netherlands.  She bolted,  and tried to remember her way to the freeway (they call them "interstates" on Louisiana),  but got off track and ended up cruising the rented Toyota Prius past BR's "dance bar",  formerly known to Miss G as "the Emporium", and then later "Neimans", and now "SPLASH!"

As Miss G pulled in to the surprisingly crowded parking lot,  she was somewhat surprised to hear the Bette Midler'sBette Midler version of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"1.jpg (17065 bytes)  wafting from the confines of the cinder block building.  Seemed kinda retro to her.

Anyway,  imagine the squeals of delight when Miss G entered the building to discover the "Miss Gay Louisiana America" contest

was going live and in person!  Miss G has to say: "these queens take this shit serious!!"  "No,  really!"   I'm talking chorus choreography,  backdrops,  props,  and casts of thousands!

Baton Rouge has come along way since "Boy Ginger" danced to a Ha,   Culture Club, and  A Flock of Seagulls right there in that building!  I'm just saying!
