Pics, as Promised- and more!

Here are a couple of pics from last nights' show benefitting the Krewe.

Here's Alicia Allure, Miss Mint Julep 2008,  with Queen Olympus XXIX and Ginger.

The theme of the show was "Lessons Learned",  and for her first number Miss G did the old standard "Teach Me Tonight".  It was an Amy Winehouse recording and she sounds great on it!

Her final number was from La Barbra,  and it's one of Miss G's favorite songs because it's all about loving yourself:

Barbra Streisand - Lessons to be learned

Click it to hear it!

They say there's a universal plan
For every woman, for every man
I do believe there's a higher power
But in our darkest hour it's hard to understand
So we start to question, start to doubt
We lose faith in what life's all about

Why did the right road take the wrong turn
Why did our heart break, why'd we get burned
Just like the seasons there are reasons for the path we take
There are no mistakes
Just lessons to be learned

Don't give up, keep on looking deep inside
Let your heartbeat be your guide
ŒCause there's a gift, for those who keep believing
You'll find what you've been needing is right before your eyes
You'll hold the answer in your hands
Then you'll know, you'll finally understand

Why did the right road take a wrong turn
Why did our heart break, why'd we get burned
Just like the seasons there are reasons for the path we take
There are no mistakes
Just lessons to be learned

No matter how many times you stumble or fall
The greatest lesson is loving yourself through it all

Why did the right road take a wrong turn
Why did our heart break, why'd we get burned
Justlike the seasons, there are reasons for the path we take
There are no mistakes
Just lessons
Lessons to be learned

After the show,  Miss G ate her some late-night Popeye's and got her butt to bed!

Next topic:

A thread on Nutwood Beth's journal reminded Miss G of her longstanding love for the B-52's.

Back in high school (before emo kids, goth kids,  or anything with a name other dorks) a group of us who were the "pop culture leaders" (aka future gays and lesbians) were the only ones in school who had even heard of the B-52's.  This would have been the "Rock Lobster" days.  As Miss G searched YouTube for this post,  she found one of her FAVORITE B-52's songs that she hasn't heard in years!

Legal Tender-  the B-52's (click!)

We're in the basement, learning to print
All of it's hot!
10-20-30 million ready to be spent
We're stackin' 'em against the wall
Those gangster presidents
Livin' simple and trying to get by
But honey, prices have shot through the sky
So I fixed up the basement with
What I was a-workin' with
Stocked it full of jelly jars
And heavy equipment
We're in the basement...
10-20-30 million dollars
Ready to be spent

Walk into the bank, try to pass that trash
Teller sees and says "Uh-huh-that's fresh as grass."
See the street pass under your feet
In time to buy the latest model get-away Jeep

So I fixed up the basement with
What I was a-workin' with
Stocked it full of jelly jars
And heavy equipment
We're in the basement

So I fixed up the basement with
What I was a-workin' with
Stocked it full of jelly jars
And heavy equipment
We're in the basement,
Learning to print
All of it's hot
All counterfeit

Haven't thought of that song in years but now it will be stuck in my head for weeks!

Anyway,  Nutwood Beth sent me the link to this adorable little lodge in the Catskills called Kate's Lazy Meadow Motel.  It's an old 50's era roadside motel that has been rennovated to a 50's mid-century modern kitsch that is just adorable.  If you think I'm going in circles with the entry, there is a link- it's owned by Kate Pierson

the red-haired beehive girl of the B-52's!!!!   Of course Miss G always loved the red haired one,  so you'd best believe Miss G is going to plan a playcation with some of here best buds in the mountains next summer!!! Any takers?

I like your mod look--very B-52's!

Glad I was able to bring back some happy memories for you. I knew you'd like Kate's lodge--doesn't it look fun?!

Have a safe trip! Oh, and thanks for the mention, but it's NutWOOD, not NutBUSH. That's completely different! LOL

Hugs, Beth

Absolutely adored the pictures of you. The campground  Kate's Lazy Meadow motel looked like it would be a blast to visit. Thanks for including the lyrics to the songs hon, it means alot to me. The Barbra Steisand song is something I needed to read (reading is the same as hearing for me) right now...it says so much within those words. (Hugs)Indigo

Well if you want takers on a trip up north you've got one. The place looks fabulous and since Aurora is from Upstate New York it would be nice to see some familiar territory.

I hope Ike doesn't treat you bad and I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Kisses,
Aurora
