As I went outside this morning to feed Nog,
there was ALMOST the smell of fall in the air. Not a northeast "turn your cheeks pink and smell the neighbors fireplace" kind of fall, but a Texas "it's less than 90 degrees and the humidity doesn't knock you over" kind of fall. It marks the beginning of a very special kind of time for us. A time when we can dine outdoors at a restaurant and not perspire. We can actually walk to our cars without sweating. And gardening once again becomes a pleasure instead of the "get it done and get back to the a/c ASAP" kind of a chore that it has been all summer. I suspect in the north, people feel this same kind of giddy excitement the first time they can take the trash out without putting their coats on, or just hop into the car without shoveling the driveway first. One good thing about the South- when the humidity piles up in the yard, we call it "rain" and watch it drain away without shovel or human intervention! Happy fall, ya'll! Gumbo weather will be here before you know it! Maybe I will even share Momma G's secrets!

Nog is cute! Our cat Sheeba is also a black kitty--we learned at the Voodoo Museum that black cats are actually GOOD luck!
I laughed when you wrote that in the north we feel the same excitement when we can first go outside without a coat. It's so true!

It's humid as hell here in Alabama. It's like walking out into a sauna. I hate weather like this!

My black cat, the mysterious Merlyn Orion, has a white star on his chest and (blush) a tiny white bikini! I seem to be gathering friends in your area- Humidity is something also rare in So. California but this summer we have had our share. It's reminds me of other times and places. I'll be back! Dannelle
It is not quite as bad up here in yankeeville as you portray, but we do like it when the snow stops and we can downsize to windbreakers :o)
