Big ole piece o' meat!

Miss Ginger is up early today to get a big ole piece of meat ready for the Krewe Appreciation Party this afternoon at Chances.  It starts at one,  so our girl had to get up early to get that bisket on the grill so it will be cooked in time!  The appreciation party is where the Krewe recognizes all of the people who supported us throughout the year with Certificates of Appreciation,  and makes Honorary Members of the most consistently supportive friends of the Krewe.  It's officially the last event associated with the prior reign and Ball Captain,  and it's also where we reveal to the public the new Ball Captain and Board of Directors for the coming year.  Our own Miss Ginger Grant will be introduced today as Vice-President,  and she is truly honored to be trusted with the role.  As with any organization there's always politics and personalities galore,  but we have a real good board this year who can be forward looking enough to maintain our fiscal existence and respectful enough to maintain our traditions, customs,  and standing in the community.

Of course,  taking on the volunteer role of Vice-President is going to tax the time management skills of poor Miss Ginger,  who already has a crazy day job and a demanding performance schedule.  She's taken on a personal assitant to help with most of the office tasks,  to keep her free for her public appearances and comunity relations.  Here's Miss Shelby at her desk in the office on her first day at work,  trying to get settled in and making herself comfortable in the new job.  As you can see,  she appears to be thrilled with this new career opportunity and is eager to make a good impression! Onboarding always takes a while,  but she'll be a great help to Miss G, for sure!

Post-bunny blues!

Easter and the Bunnies party has come and gone,  and wuncha know it,  Miss G is sick with a head cold and the ensuing blues.  Chills and body aches but no fever,  so it's not even like she gets out of the day job! Hopefully it will run it's course quickly and not turn into something worse!

This weekend is  big Krewe weekend,  with the Campaign party for new officers on Friday night,  the annual meeting with the actual election on Saturday,  and the Appreciation Party on Sunday.  Miss G is running for Vice-president,  so wish her luck!

Happy Easter to Everybunny!

Here it is Easter already and once again, Miss G is unprepared for all the things that are coming and going!  The heat of summer is going to set in before she knows it, and the gardens are no where near the way she wants them! More on that later...

Easter Sunday is the date for one of the largest event of the Houston Fund Raising season. Bunnies on the Bayou has evolved over the last 29 years from a private party in someone's backyard (it used to be called the Bunnief***k Party) to a charity event with corporate sponsors hosted on the grounds of Houston's Wortham Center opera house. The Bunnies group is not really the circle Miss G generally hangs with, as they tend to be the hard core party boys who gym all day and dance all night. Where they come up with the energy for all, Miss G could only speculate,  but she knows from experience it takes more than a few can of Red Bull to keep up with that crowd!  In all fairness, their membership has matured a bit (gracefully of course) and their party boy reputation has been bequeathed to the Bayou City Boys Club that produces Jungle Lust,  a night-before-Easter true circuit party that brings in the circuit crowd from all over the country. Definitely not Miss G's scene, so she stayed home with the kitties last night and caught up on her beauty sleep!

Anyho,  Sonna and G are going to catch brunch at the Cadillac Bar with Miss Tony and Mr. Bill,  and then catch Bunnies in the afternoon. ERICSS and TGRA and a few other groups have shows throughout the day, so if Bunnies is boring or if our girl has any energy left, she may catch a couple of those.

It's a shame we don't have yesterday's weather today! It was warm and sunny yesterday,  the kind of weather that makes the hot boys at Bunnies take their shirts off and dance in the fountains!   Today is a bit cooler and cloudier,  with a breeze that makes it downright chilly.  If the sun doesn't come out,  Miss G will have to bring a wrap!

But the weather has been beautful lately and things are greening up nicely!  The azaleas have almost come and gone,  and Miss G's Louisiana Irises are already starting to bloom! That seems very early!  Before you know it the daylillys will bloom,  then the hibiscus,  and finally the crepe myrtes.  The crepes are about the only plant that can bloom in the summer heat of Texas, so we plant them everywhere in order to have some color other than green during August and September.  Here  are a couple of picks from the garden.  The first is a plant Miss G's Momma always called "ground orchids". They came from Momma's yard,  and are one of the earliest bloomers every year.  The blooms go to seed,  which drop and germinate, so the clump gets bigger every year.  They are such a brilliant violet that they almost seem to glow,  and the color is so vivid that they almost photograph as white.  The second shot is a yellow Louisiana Iris,  which grows wild in the swamps and bayous of Miss G's birthstate.  They appear in yellow and blue,  but the yellow is much more aggressive and chokes out the blue,  so they are a bit more rare.  The blue ones also bloom a bit later,  so we'll add photos when we can. Can't rush mother nature!

Happy Easter to all!

Transformation

So here's a couple of pics from last night's Dykie Diva contest at Chances.  Miss Ginger painted the reigning DD, Stacy,  who stepped down this year. Here's her B & A:

Miss Ginger's battery ran out in the camera after these 2 shots,  but hopefully someone out there in Gingerland got shots of this years winner that they will share.  It was truly amazing,  but best of all we raised lots of $$$ for Legacy's womens' programs!

Teaching lesbians to dance!

Have you ever tried to teach lesbians to dance? Until tonight,  neither had Miss Ginger, but she's here to tell you,  it ain't easy!  It's not that they don't have rhythm, God love 'em, because they do.  They're just so STIFF!  Girls: loosen up, relax,  and enjoy the music!  And this was just a rehearsal!

You see,  Friday night is the 5th annual Dykie Diva contest benefitting Legacy Community Health Services.  Once again,  Miss Ginger will  be there to help make ladies of these ladies,  and she was even asked to help choreograph the routine for the production number that the previous winners will put on!  Last year,  the lady that Miss Ginger painted, Fluffy Ruffles,  won the contest,  so Miss G is hoping for a repeat this year! If you've never seen Dykie Diva,  I strongly encourage you to catch it Friday night at Chances,  starting at 10pm.  Miss G will be there,  along with Queen Olympus XXXVIII, Queen Kaylynn,  who will be one of the guest judges!  Hope you can all make it!

The Return of the Website- hopefully!

For those of you who were fans of Miss Ginger's website,  you can look forward to an update sometime this millenium.  See,  the computer that it was created on crashed and was restored, but  all the data was lost.  Now,  all of the data has been sucked back into the computer off the host where it was stored on the web. (Isn't technology amazing!?)  However,  it's just a bunch of pictures and words again!  All the time and energy spent by Miss G and her peeps to format the data into web pages and links is gone and has to be redone.  And Miss doesn't really have peeps.  So she'll have to do it herself.  In her spare time.  When she's not performing.  Or sewing fabulous costumes.  Or working at her day job that pays the bills.

So here's where she needs your help.  What was your favorite part of the site?  Was it the links? The calendar? The beauty tips?  She'll have to restore it a page at a time,  so leave a comment on the blog and let her know where to begin! She's overwhelmed and needs your help!!!!

Mint Julep Kickoff is on the way!

Those of you who keep up with TFBOMGG know that we have been planning to plan a Miss Mint Julep kickoff celebrating Derby Day for quite some time.  Tonight, we actually met to plan it!  Str8 Up with a Twist was here,  along with ShyAnne,   JohnPaul, Marcia Mink Gill,  and Sonna.  We've come up with some really fun stuff,  including a bonnet contest that will knock your socks off.  The date is May 3,  the time is 2pm-5pm,  and the place is EJ's.  I've given you all plenty of time to juggle your schedules so I expect to see you all there. (Except mssngmysoldier.  You get a bye.  It's kind of a long flight!  I'll have to understand!  But you can send a hat for the contest if you want!)  So the rest of you better start working on your hat-  I expect them all to be FABULOUS!!!

Hot Tranny Mess!

If you missed SNL last night you MUST go to NBC.com and watch the clip of the "new Bravo show"  If you are a Project Runway fan you will love it!

For all you Krewebies out there,  I have a photo that will make you insane with jealousy!

No, your eyes are no deceiving you.  There are actually 2 vehicles in the garage AT THE SAME TIME!! Can you believe it?  Of course, I know it's fleeting,  and the Volvo had to go in at kind of an angle so as not to hit the stack of banquet tables that has sort of  developed in there, but they are actually in there for now!  At least until we have a ball theme and costume work begins,  I can live like a normal person and put the cars in the garage!  What a great feeling!

Weight Watchers minus the meetings!

Well,  Miss G went to see Dr. D  yesterday because her thumb and elbow have been bothering her.  Numbness,  soreness,  sensitivity,  and weakness. If you guessed carpal tunnel,  10 points for you!  I think the good Dr. must hang out with Jackson and Shelby's vet, because he looks at the chart and exclaims: "Good Lord!  You've gained 20 pounds since the last time you were here!  How did that happen?"  My reply?  "Oh, it was easy,  really!"  He suggested I join Weight Watchers,  and I'm like "I am not going to meetings with those fat ladies!"  So he told me "you can do it all online", and I thought to myself "Great!  Another reason to sit in front of a computer for hours with no physical activity!"  So anyway, Miss Ginger is signed up and on her way!  This is her first day,   and against her 28 point allowance she has already racked up 32 points!  How's that for overchieving??  In her own defense,  she didn't sign up until after she ate those 2 corny dogs for lunch!  As a look ahead,  she's already calculated the points for her favorite breakfast tomorrow at Tecate.  32 points.  Another disaster day!  So far this Weight Watchers thing isn't working so good for our gurl!  The good news?  This glass of red wine is only 2 points!  That means if you use a big enough glass,  the whole bottle is only 6 points!  This might work out after all!  Wish me luck.... I'm gonna need it!

Oh, BTW>  we have come up with a name for the car.  Veronique Volvo Chez Francais, n'est pas?  I couldn't come up with a Swedish "V" name so I went for exotic European!

Brrrrrrrrr!

What the %&#@!!!!  Last weekend it was warm and sunny,  and this morning it's butt-ass cold!!!  Blaineman5 says it's snowing in Fort Worth.  It's a good thing Miss G didn't have to go to Oklahoma this week- that's one of the coldest placest on earth!  Hopefully things will warm up by the weekend,  and we won't have any freezing weather in Houston.  Looks like the Azalea Trail may be a bust this year!   Stay warm!

Here She Is!!!

Well,  she did it! During her long and boring business trip to Atlanta,  Miss Ginger carved out time to do some internet car shopping,  and finally struck a deal on her current dream car!  And here she is:

Isn't she a beauty?!!  Now,  those of you who know Miss G also know she always names her cars-  every pretty girl has to have a pretty name,  right?  Though not a hard and fast rule, all of the cars in the past have had names that alliterate with the make or brand of the car (anyone out there been with Miss G long enough to remember Christina Chrysler or Connie Cabrio?)  So, Sally Silverado and Miss G need help naming Sally's new sister.  So far we've come up with:

Veronica Volvo,

Velma Volvo,

Vicki Volvo,

and for those Tim Gunn fans out there,

Carmen Marc Volvo!

So be a love and leave Miss G a comment on the blog with your favorite of these names, or maybe something even more creative!

Love to all!
